Lead Generation – Do You Need It?

Lead generation is an extremely critical part of marketing, both online and offline.  Without leads, business wouldn’t move and we all know what it means when business doesn’t move…  Going Out of Business Sales!

All kidding aside, leads are the life blood of any successful business.  You need them in order to have the opportunity to make a sale to either an individual or to another business.  If you were to use an online business like selling information products in the business opportunity niche as an example, then you will definitely need prospects in order to make a sale of your product.

Online businesses use lead generation tools like autoresponders to capture email addresses so that they can turn that potential lead into a paying customer.  This is where email marketing comes in.  A really good email series can be setup beforehand and sent out automatically to everyone on an email list to entice the prospect into buying something that they are interested in based on the type of newsletter that they are subscribed to.  Now what I just said is very important because you must match the content of your emails to a particular niche topic that the prospect is interested in, otherwise it is like giving someone an apple who just asked you for an orange.

It is important to have a good mixture of great and interesting content vs. just repeated sales messages.  It’s a delicate balance that comes with experience and really getting to know the type of people that are joining your list.

A well known fact is that a customer is about 15 times more likely to buy something from you again than someone that hasn’t purchased anything from you yet.  Lead generation is only the first step in the puzzle.  It takes far more leads to make sales than it does to equal even a small fraction of a list of buyers, but that is another blog post…

10 Easy Email Subject Line Tips – Part 2

Tip #6: Be mindful of email filters.

There is a definite difference between “spammy” and “catchy.”  Be sure to check out your emails with a content checker (Aweber has one built in) to catch words that would cause your emails to end up in a bulk or junk email folder.  With a content checker you will know beforehand if your email would make it into the inbox or not.

Tip #7: You can lead but never mislead.

You don’t want to offer a special that the subscribers would find hard to follow through with in order to get a benefit or special offer.  Never promise more than what the email can deliver or stretch the truth.  It will cause the readers to click the spam button because they distrust you when the subject line doesn’t line up with the email’s content.

Tip #8: Test early and test regularly.

Writing an email subject line should be one of the first things that you consider when creating a campaign, but far too often it is the last.  A lot of people hurry on this critical step.  As you plan your campaign always think of the subject lines first and let it shape the emails.  It will definitely sharpen your campaign’s focus and make it more cohesive.

Tip #9: Review your last several campaigns subject lines for performance.

Look for the highest click-through rates, most conversions, average sale per order, etc.  Find the email subject lines that performed the best for the actions that you wanted the subscribers to take.

Tip #10: Make sure you continue the conversation.

You need to continue the conversation with your readers by sending emails more frequently that just monthly or quarterly.  You should use tracking reports to see what their hot-buttons are, what it is that gets them to open emails quickly and clicking on the links inside.  Then use those key words or issues where appropriate.  Put those words in the first or second position of the subject lines to capture the attention of your subscribers.

Email Marketing – Is it really necessary?

Is email marketing really necessary, the answer is a resounding yes!  If you want your business to last and even grow online you must build a list of prospects and customers.  Many business owners that I have spoken with spend their time trying to get new customers when they should be concentrating on the ones that they already have.

It is a fact that it costs much more to acquire a new customer than it does to get an existing customer to buy more from your business.  You always need new customers and should have plan in place to get them but you should have an even better plan in place for selling to repeat customers.

So if you are an online business, you need the contact information of your customers so that you can sell to them again and again.  One of the very best things that you could know about your customers is their lifetime worth to your business.  Once you know this stat you can place a sales funnel in place to market to them appropriately.

For the online business and offline businesses alike, you can market to your customers via email.  Never use the hard sell approach, build a good relationship by providing value.  It might be the use of free stuff and/or giving great discount coupons that they only receive if they are signed up to your email list of customers.  Treat your list of customers with respect and they will return the favor in the form of cash in your bank account.

List Building – The Holy Grail of Internet Marketing?

A lot has been going around about email marketing lately.  Once Frank Kern released List Control it really brought the conversation to the forefront.  Now everywhere you look there is some kind of email marketing course coming out.

Personally I think that people should first focus on finding where their strengths are and start from there.  But what seems to happen is that when something big comes out, everyone gets sucked in and then jump on the bandwagon.

There are so many things that you can do to make money online before building an email list.  You just have to find something that really doesn’t feel like work to you and run with it!

I am going to keep this post short so I will only give you one example.  If you like graphics you could create website graphics for people who need it.  Then as you do a good job for other online businesses at a reasonable price the word would get out and then you will build a good customer base.  Essentially what you have just done is built a quality list of customers, AKA a list…

Email lists come in all forms and sizes and they don’t even need a formal autoresponder.  That can always come later.  Some will agree with me and some will not but one thing’s for sure, you just need to do something and get started or nothing will happen for you at all.
