Email Marketing Best Practices

I’ve been in this Internet marketing game awhile now but I am still shocked when I get emails from marketers that don’t at least adhere to the most common of email marketing best practices.

What do I mean by email marketing best practices?  I mean that the whole reason why we use email to market with is to pre-sell.  Many marketers today either don’t take the time or don’t know that they should be practicing pre-selling techniques in their emails.

Without creating an extremely long post, I’m going to give you a quick breakdown of how you should be pre-selling your prospects and customers on something that you want them to take action on.

Email Marketing Best Practices

  1. Always say why you are sending the email.  Let people know that you have something for them to take a serious look at.
  2. In no uncertain terms, tell them what you’ve got.  Don’t beat around the bush here.  Tell them if you have the best software ever made!
  3. Here you need to tell people what your thing is going to do for them.  They need to know how your thing is going to benefit them.
  4. Tell them why they need to take action RIGHT NOW!  If you are attempting to get them to opt into an email list or buy something use scarcity/urgency in some way to in order to move them to take action.
  5. Actually tell them what they need to do once they go where you want them to go.  That might be to opt in to see an important video or buy a great product.

There you have it!  The top five email marketing best practices that will help you to sell more stuff and ultimately make you more successful.

Do you have some really good email marketing best practices?  If you do or just want to be heard, leave a comment.
