10 Easy Email Subject Line Tips – Part 1

Tip #1: Learn from newspaper headlines.

Great email subject lines can easily be found just by reading your local newspaper.  In a limited amount of space a headline will place the spotlight on a story’s most important fact.  Therefore a good subject line should tell the reader what they can expect from the email.  It should tell them what is in it for them or an action that you want them to take.

Tip #2: There is no absolute method.

Sometimes one email campaign will kill and then tank the next time.  Up-sell offers shouldn’t be worded the same as a discount offer, and then a breaking-news announcement is even different still.

Your campaigns should stand out each time while still maintaining familiarity to the reader.  Don’t recycle email subject lines from an old campaign.  What works best?  I’ll cover that in the next tip.

Tip #3: Test, test and then test some more!

Keep testing all of the time to find out what styles and trends work well.  Try out different email subject lines.  Maybe give yourself an entire campaign-creation day to get the ideas flowing.

Tip #4: Subject line success is not always measured by a good open rate.

Another way to judge a successful subject line is by its conversions, that could mean clicks, opt-ins, downloads or sales.  If you look closely you might find that a particular email has a relatively low open rate but an unusually high sales-per-order rate.  That might possibly point to something in the subject line that had a strong appeal to a small segment of your email list.  If that happens, it would be worth taking a look at list segmentation so that you can cater to a more lucrative section of your prospects.

Tip #5: Action is driven by a sense of urgency.

Always set deadlines: “Your order must be in by midnight tonight;” “Final day to arrive by Christmas.”  When using urgency, make it a part of a planned email series.  For example on a Monday include: “Only 5 Days Left…” and then on that Thursday follow it up with: “Only 24 Hours…”.

Email Marketing Deliverability – Who Is AWeber?

If you’re going to use an autoresponder to deliver an email campaign, it is very important to use one that has exceptional email marketing deliverability.  I currently use what is arguably known as the very best autoresponder in the business and that’s AWeber.

They’ve been around since 1998 and they will even let you try them out for only $1.

Aweber

The reason they are so good is that they have the highest deliverability rate amongst all of the autoresponder companies out there.  That is so very important because if you have a large email list of subscribers but only 60% of your emails are being delivered you have just lost a huge opportunity for more income.

Another big thing about email deliverability is where the email arrives.  If the email is not getting to your subscriber’s inbox, it’s almost like it didn’t reach them at all.  Bulk and spam filters are sending more and more emails into no man’s land, which further decrease your bottom line.

AWeber Communications do a phenomenal job of delivering email right to everyone’s email inbox so that they actually see it.  From there it’s up to your copywriting skills to get your subscribers to open the email but that’s something that I’ll probably talk about in a future post.

In the meantime, go over to AWeber and take a look at their services for yourself.  I think that you’ll like them and be impressed by their email marketing deliverability rates.

Email Marketing – Is it really necessary?

Is email marketing really necessary, the answer is a resounding yes!  If you want your business to last and even grow online you must build a list of prospects and customers.  Many business owners that I have spoken with spend their time trying to get new customers when they should be concentrating on the ones that they already have.

It is a fact that it costs much more to acquire a new customer than it does to get an existing customer to buy more from your business.  You always need new customers and should have plan in place to get them but you should have an even better plan in place for selling to repeat customers.

So if you are an online business, you need the contact information of your customers so that you can sell to them again and again.  One of the very best things that you could know about your customers is their lifetime worth to your business.  Once you know this stat you can place a sales funnel in place to market to them appropriately.

For the online business and offline businesses alike, you can market to your customers via email.  Never use the hard sell approach, build a good relationship by providing value.  It might be the use of free stuff and/or giving great discount coupons that they only receive if they are signed up to your email list of customers.  Treat your list of customers with respect and they will return the favor in the form of cash in your bank account.

Opinions, opinions, everyone has them so tell me yours by leaving a comment about this post.

List Building – The Holy Grail of Internet Marketing?

A lot has been going around about email marketing lately.  Once Frank Kern released List Control it really brought the conversation to the forefront.  Now everywhere you look there is some kind of email marketing course coming out.

Personally I think that people should first focus on finding where their strengths are and start from there.  But what seems to happen is that when something big comes out, everyone gets sucked in and then jump on the bandwagon.

There are so many things that you can do to make money online before building an email list.  You just have to find something that really doesn’t feel like work to you and run with it!

I am going to keep this post short so I will only give you one example.  If you like graphics you could create website graphics for people who need it.  Then as you do a good job for other online businesses at a reasonable price the word would get out and then you will build a good customer base.  Essentially what you have just done is built a quality list of customers, AKA a list…

Email lists come in all forms and sizes and they don’t even need a formal autoresponder.  That can always come later.  Some will agree with me and some will not but one thing’s for sure, you just need to do something and get started or nothing will happen for you at all.
